Angela Wigger

Angela Wigger is Lecturer Global Political Economy and International Relations at the Department of Political Science at the Radboud University Nijmegen. Her current research focuses on analyzing the global economic crisis and the transnational political economy of the EU - with a special focus on competition regulation and financialisation processes from a critical (historical materialist) perspective. She is amongst others the author of the book 'The Politics of European Competition Regulation. A Critical Political Economy Perspective', co-authored by Hubert Buch-Hansen (2011, New York and London: Routledge/RIPE Series in Global Political Economy).

She obtained her PhD titled 'Competition for Competitiveness. The Politics of Transformation of the EU Competition Regime' (2008) at the vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She studied Political Science, Economics and Sociology at the Universität Bern in Switzerland, and Political Science at the vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she received her Master degree (cum laude).

Research Interests

Capitalist crises (origins and political responses); Critical Global Political Economy (GPE) approaches, historical materialism, critical realism; European and global competition regulation; financialisation processes and industrial relations; bilateral investment treaties; European union politics and international relations more generally.

Angela Wigger is a board member of the Critical Political Economy Research Network (CPERN).
